Join us on Zoom for our expert-led, one-hour illustrated lecture and take a look back at the Great Blizzard of '78.
The Great Blizzard of 1978 is often the storm that all other winter storms are measured against. This virtual presentation covers a synopsis of the records of the storm in Indianapolis and across the Midwest. It will include a brief look at the meteorology behind the blizzard, a short chronology of the storm taken from media sources as well as historic files from the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Indianapolis. Impacts to the weather service staff at the time, lasting effects of the blizzard, and winter weather safety will be included as part of the presentation.
Presenter: Joseph M. Nield—Meteorologist with the National Weather Service (NWS-Indy) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
This event is being held as an online meeting/webinar via Zoom. Registered attendees will be emailed login instructions approximately 2 hours before the event.
