Indiana-based photographer Ryan Sparrow will discuss the use of drones in aerial photography, as well as drone flying, why or how to get a drone pilots license, and drone mapping using photos, with time for Q & A following the presentation.

Indiana-based photographer Ryan Sparrow has been flying drones as part of his photo arsenal for more than a decade, since he strapped a GoPro on the first DJI Phantom. Already an award-winning photographer, Sparrow has become particularly focused on aerial photography in his work.

Originally a newspaper photojournalist before transitioning to academia, Sparrow taught photojournalism and journalism graphics at Ball State University. He has conducted photo tours in Cuba and the UK and has recently started his own business focusing on architecture photography and drone photogrammetry mapping. Sparrow created Ball State's drone program, which led to becoming a consultant with the start-up drone company Hyvion. Through Hyvion, Sparrow continues to help companies, universities and local government agencies create drone operation programs. In addition to Hyvion, Sparrow has worked for national drone-based businesses including DroneDeploy, DroneBase and DroneGenuity.
