Explore the real meaning behind the nursery rhymes we learned as children.

Almost as soon as we learn to speak, we learn our first nursery rhymes. These simple little verses are easy to learn and have delighted children for centuries. What is not widely known is that many of these rhymes were created about some dark periods in Britain's past. Come along and learn the dark history of nursery rhymes. Not suitable for children.

Presenter: John Gowing, a teacher in England for 32 years and a London Blue Badge tour guide for 11 years. He currently resides in Illinois, after marrying an American, and presents talks on British history, culture, and London tourist attractions.

This event is being held as an online meeting/webinar via Zoom. Registered attendees will be emailed login instructions approximately 24 hours before the event.

Made possible by Friends of the Library through gifts to The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation.

About the branch

This is not a real library branch - this is the "location" for our events that occur online. Online events that take place on Zoom should all involve registration and a link will be emailed to participants. Other online events may occur on YouTube or Facebook, and will not require registration.
