The Center for Black Literature & Culture invites you to 2021's Book Fest & Juneteenth Celebration, which will highlight authors and poets and their importance to our community as well as literacy and writing.
This program will spotlight several local authors, Brandon Warren, Januarie York & Andrew Bowman. Local entertainers will also be showcased.
Brandon Warren, local author and anti-gun violence advocate. Brandon’s nonprofit, We LIVE, Inc. is a youth lead nonprofit that speaks and rallies against both youth and gun violence. Brandon Warren is currently a Senior at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis. Brandon is also the author of two novels: ‘B Inspired’ and ‘B Inspired 2 Continue.
Januarie York, the First Center for Black Literature & Culture Poet Laureate has been carving her own lane in poetry, writing and performance art. Januarie is a freelance writer, published author & poet who, in addition to performing original poetry, has produced several of her own spoken word theatrical shows that focus on uplifting and inspiring women. Currently she operates her own blog, "The I Is Never Silent". She is currently putting the final touches on her first full-length book, "NOMAD", set for a June 2021 release.
Andrew Bowman, local genealogist and author, researched the service of his grandfather Andrew Jackson Smith, a freedom seeker who fought in the Civil War. Due to his efforts Bowman was able to secure the the Medal of Honor for Andrew Jackson Smith. Bowman released his book "Carrying the Colors: The Life and Legacy of Medal of Honor Recipient Andrew Jackson Smith" in 2020.
