You’re invited to join the Soulful Pages Book Club for a rich, candid, and thought-provoking discussion of Clarence A. Haynes’s powerful novel, "The Ghosts of Gwendolyn Montgomery".

Join us at the Central Library on January 26th from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM in the CBLC as we gather for an engaging conversation that challenges us to sit with memory, grief, ambition, and the unseen forces that shape who we become. Together, we’ll explore the emotional layers of the story, unpack its central themes, and reflect on how the novel speaks to identity, legacy, and the ghosts—both literal and figurative—that follow us through life.

Come ready to share your insights, ask bold questions, and engage in soulful conversation in a welcoming, reflective space.

The Ghosts of Gwendolyn Montgomery by Clarence A. Haynes

The Ghosts of Gwendolyn Montgomery follows Gwendolyn Montgomery, a successful Black woman whose carefully curated life begins to unravel when she is forced to confront the past she has spent years avoiding. As Gwen navigates love, career pressures, and complicated family relationships, the “ghosts” of her history—childhood trauma, lost relationships, unspoken truths, and unresolved grief—resurface in unexpected ways.

Clarence A. Haynes weaves a deeply emotional narrative that blurs the line between the supernatural and the psychological. The novel explores how inherited pain, ambition, and survival shape our choices, and how facing the past can be both frightening and freeing. Through Gwen’s journey, readers are invited to reflect on healing, self-acceptance, and what it truly means to move forward.
