Culture, History, and Society: Rare Books and Special CollectionsFrank McKinney "Kin" Hubbard (1868-1930) was an American cartoonist and humorist who created the "Abe Martin" comic. Join us in person at the Central Library in the Indianapolis Special Collections Room (ISCR) and explore Hubbard's life and career, focusing on how he developed his character.

Presented by: Ray E. Boomhower is the Senior Editor at the Indiana Historical Society Press, where he edits the quarterly history magazine, Traces of Indiana and Midwestern History. A former newspaper reporter, he is a prolific author of numerous books and articles on Indiana history, including biographies of notable figures like astronaut Gus Grissom, journalist Ernie Pyle, and President Benjamin Harrison. A native of Mishawaka, he currently resides in Indianapolis. – Source: Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame

Location: This program will be held in person in the Indianapolis Special Collections Room (ISCR) on the 6th floor of Central Library.

About the branch

As the hub of the Indianapolis Public Library system, Central Library showcases renowned architecture and services. The original 1917 building, designed by Paul Cret and constructed of Indiana limestone in the Greek Doric style, was considered one of the most outstanding secular buildings in the U.S. Its six-story glass and steel-framed addition, designed by Evans Woollen, opened in 2007.
