Join us on Zoom and step back into the nineteenth century when kids across America eagerly read Jacob Abbott’s Rollo books. This presentation examines how novels intended to “delight and instruct” taught young readers to be upstanding citizens—an idea that still resonates in children’s books today.
Culture, History, and Society: Rare Books and Special Collections—Explore 19th-century children's literature with us on Zoom with Sara Loy, Indiana University. We'll discuss how Jacob Abbott's Rollo books aimed to teach kids good citizenship through engaging stories, a concept still relevant in today's children's books. Registration is required.
Presented by: Teaching Fellow and PhD Candidate Sara Loy, Department of English, Indiana University.
