Children 3-6 are invited to a virtual Library visit! Join Professor Watermelon for a fun-filled story time all about wheels.
Reading Ready Time is a virtual library experience specifically designed to help children 3-6 years old get ready to read and connect with the Library. Programs will be available for a limited time following the premiere on our YouTube channel.
Young children are natural scientists, investigating and testing hypotheses constantly as they play. By the end of Kindergarten, children should be able to “identify and explain possible uses for an object based on its properties and compare these uses with other students’ ideas.” (Indiana Standards, K.1.2). Play is the scientific method in action! Be sure to give your children ample opportunity to explore and play with forces and motion.
Additional resources to enhance learning:
• Give your children an opportunity to play with things that roll. Provide old boards, pipe insulation, or cardboard and small vehicles or marbles (warning: choking hazard) and encourage students to design tracks. Listen to them as they talk through their plan and ask questions: “Why are you trying that?” “What do you think will happen?” As children share their plans, they are building vocabulary, critical thinking, and background knowledge. This resource article lists lots of ideas to inspire.
• Nothing like taking a familiar song and tweaking the lyrics! This list of Wheels on the Bus books will get your children singing and laughing.
• Want to take Wheels on the Bus all the way? This teacher shares a whole week full of ideas including phoneme practice.

This is not a real library branch - this is the "location" for our events that occur online. Online events that take place on Zoom should all involve registration and a link will be emailed to participants. Other online events may occur on YouTube or Facebook, and will not require registration.
