Culture, History, and Society: Historic Indianapolis Metropolitan Area—The Second Empire style of architecture, easily identified by its sloping mansard roofs, dominated Parisian architecture from the 1850s-1870s. The style went from fashionable and fancy to spooky in the United States. Presented by: Suzanne Stanis is the Vice President of Heritage Education at Indiana Landmarks. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Hanover College and a Master's degree in Library Science from Indiana University. Suzanne oversees Indiana Landmarks’ Indianapolis tours, the heritage tourism divisions of West Baden Springs/French Lick Springs hotels, and Samara, a notable Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home in West Lafayette. For over thirty years at Indiana Landmarks, Suzanne has contributed to historic preservation by researching and successfully nominating more than fifteen buildings and neighborhoods to the National Register of Historic Places. Additionally, Suzanne manages the organization’s reference library. Suzanne serves on the boards of the Athenaeum Foundation and the National Preservation Partners Network in addition to her role at Indiana Landmarks.
This free online history lecture is part of the Culture, History, and Society: Historic Indianapolis Metropolitan Area programs hosted online by the Indianapolis Special Collections Room (ISCR). It is being held as an online meeting/webinar via Zoom. Registered attendees will receive the Zoom link via email within 2 hours before the online meeting/webinar.
