Marion County residents are invited to participate in this free legal clinic to have crimes expunged and evictions sealed. Immigration attorneys will also be available to provide assistance in filling out and reviewing the N-400 application for U.S. citizenship.

Registration is required for the criminal expungement and eviction sealing appointments. Assistance appointments for the N-400 or U.S. citizenship application will be available on a first come, first served basis.

Volunteer attorneys are provided by the Indianapolis Bar Association and the Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic. All assistance provided by the attorneys is free of charge. These free legal services will be hosted at Central Library in the Riley, Knall, and Goodrich Houk meeting rooms. There are no fees to file for criminal expungement and eviction sealing in the state of Indiana. There is a filing fee to submit the N-400 citizenship application.

If you are in need of transportation to the free legal clinic, free transportation is available. Please call 317-275-4476 and leave a voice message. A library staff member will return your call as soon as possible. Transportation is not guaranteed as there are a limited amount of transportation passes available.

  • Criminal Expungement
Marion County residents who want to pursue having a crime expunged can register for Criminal Expungement appointments on the Legal Clinic registration page. After clicking "Get tickets" scroll down to the Criminal Expungent section to select an appointment time and register. The attorneys will be available to answer questions and help people determine whether they are eligible for expungement or what steps are needed to start the criminal expungement process. To determine if you are eligible for criminal expungement, this webpage from Indiana Legal Services also helps summarize who is eligible. After a person’s cases are reviewed, attorneys will refer the person to the Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic for a meeting at a later date to draft and file expungement paperwork.

  • Register for Eviction Sealing
Marion County residents can register for eviction sealing help through the Legal Clinic registration page. After clicking "Get tickets" scroll to select an appointment time and register.  Attorneys will assist in filling out and filing the necessary paperwork to start the eviction sealing process. This webpage from the Indiana Legal Help website has information about the eligibility requirements for eviction record sealing.

  • Assistance appointments for the N-400 or U.S. citizenship application will be available on a first come, first served basis.
The immigration attorneys can answer questions related to the citizenship application and assist in filling out the application form. The U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) agency has documents that explain the 10 steps to becoming a U.S. citizen. Immigration attorneys will be providing free assistance, but the filing fees for the N-400 must still be paid.
